The welcome screen flashes briefly, then everything shuts down. There's three long beeps and the light continues to flash repeadetly until I take out the batteries. It's not the batteries as I've been using the same rechargeable ones since I got the camera a couple months ago without any problems Can someone help? I love my camera!

It could still be a battery problem. Rechargeable batteries don't last forever. If you haven't been cycling them regularly (full discharge/full charge), they can develop memory and will no longer take a full charge. Before you troubleshoot further, try a new set of batteries. All the symptoms sound like a power supply (battery) problem.

Could be batteries...
I'm leaning more toward a lens or possibly a flash problem (I kinda doubt the flash tho).
If the lens comes out a little and goes back in, then very likely the lens.
Other than that... I'd really have to see it to figure it out.
