I have heard that frequent consumption of Red Wine(I believe it was suggested a glass a day) is good for you. Well I would like to start experiencing the tast of Red Wine however I don't know whether to get Cab Sauv, Merlot, Chardonnay etc and need some help/advise. I love my domestic beer(any bud brand) or an occasional south of the border beer and as far as Wine goes, I love the reddish/pinkish taste of White Zifandel. It has a peachy taste to it served cold and I drink a glass here and there. So for someone that likes a more fruity taste in his alcohol, which type of Red Wine will be highly recommended for me(although I will give all the different red Wines a short)..Plan on drinking a glass maybe 3 times per week with a nice juicy steak...Thanks and induldge me with your Wine wisdom!!

Easy there--first of all, from the health perspective--you want to drink the red wine to help your heart, right??? Well, then I am afraid you are going to have to skip the RED MEAT steak!! Yeah, I know, but if it is a healthy heart you want, then you have to save the steak for very special occassions!! As for the red wines, if you are just starting out, and you like the fruitiness of the quazi-reds, ie the white zins, etc then start out with a Chianti or a blend wine...there are a number of Zinfandel (which are red normally but undergo specific processes to become the "white zinfandel")...talk to the local rep at Bevmo or go to Bevmo.com....if you are in southern California, email me and we can go "testing sometime"!! :)

I like the fruity taste of a Chardonnay... and a reasonably priced one that often buy is LaCrema. A nice Pinot Griglio.is another As for the reds, yes a heavy Cab Sauv works well with a nice steak. On the lighter side would be a Merlot. The reds are rich in antioxidants, so this is an excellent way to incorporate them into your diet. There are so many excellent French, Italian, Australian, and
S. California wines! Go a reputable liquor store and ask which wines move the fastest and buy one. You will have to experiment until you find one you really like. Good luck... and what time is that steak going on the grill? I just may be in your neighborhood.

Researchers at University of California at Davis have concluded that full-bodied dry red wines contain the highest levels of flavonoids and provide the greatest benefits. The number one wine for supplying the most flavonoids is Cabernet Sauvignon with Petit Syrah and Pinot Noir also ranking highly. Sweeter wines and white wines have less flavonoids and are less beneficial. Of these 3 the Pinot Noir might be the easiest to drink for people not use to red wine, but all three can be quite yummy!

The fruitier wines (such as Zinfandel) are not as good for you as the dry red wines. Although, you might prefer Zinfandel because of the fruitiness.

Good luck!

White wines do not have the same health benefits as a red. Red wines are red from the skin of the grape, and the antioxidants are present in the skin and seed of red grapes. As for a sweet red wine, the only truly sweet red I know of is a Lambrusco. It is like drinking a wine cooler. If you are not a wine drinker normally I would recommend you start with something like a Lambrusco, or a nice light red table wine. Then work yourself into a nice full bodied red you can enjoy. Santa Christina makes a light table wine, and Reunite makes a cheesy sweet red that is traditional for my big Italian family gatherings.

Start with light bodied reds that are low in tannins (that's the dry acidic taste you get when you sip wine). I highly recommend Beaujolais. Also, try the blends-anything with malbec(peppery) and syrah(smooth & fruity) or zinfandel(spicy). Don't ask the liquor store owner-he probably only knows enough to sell you the most expensive bottles. p.s. chardonnnay is a white wine

These are my favorite red wines ( especially the ones with doubled stars) and you can enjoy them with pizza, meat dish, lamb, or grilled fish:
* 3 Blind Moose merlot
* BV Coastal merlot- full-bodied and easy to drink
* Blackstone merlot
* Forest Glen Merlot
** Lindemans Merlot
** Lindemans Shiraz
* Alice white Shiraz
* Yellow Tail Shiraz
* Jacob’s Creek Merlot / Shiraz

You can enjoy white wines with salad, fish, cheese, chicken or light meal such as sandwiches:
* Rosemont chardonnay
** Yellow Tail chardonnay
**Lindemans chardonnay

Beringer White Zinfandel or Sutter Home wines are easy to drink and fruity flavored. You can enjoy either one with light meals or drink it chilled when you want to relax and watch TV.
