Depends on what you want to do. Air Force is really administrative and mechanic jobs and officers fly. Army, you can be administrative, support, or actual combat arms and warrant officers fly helicopters. Marines has some administrative and support but hardcore combat arms and helicopter pilots. Navy has all the boat jobs, fly planes and all that other junk. I have been in the Army for 4 years and it has had its ups and downs but I wouldnt trade the experience for anything!

It depends what job you want to do. Whatever you do, don't join any of them without a guarenteed job from your recruiter. Don't let him talk you in to any open contracts, or you will get the shaft. If you want to stick around the U.S. The Coast Guard is probably your thing, unless you don't like the water and then that knocks out the Navy too. The Army is hit the heaviest with deployments right now. They seem to be going 12-15 months at a whack. The Air Force usually has the nicer facilities on base and treat their people pretty well for the most part. You are going to have to weigh many things before you make your decision. Are you looking for, Training, adventure, education? Each service has something to offer. I spent 20 years in the military, and I know that you only get out what you put in. You will hear a lot of people bitching while they are in about what they aren't getting, but in most cases those people are lazy, and won't work to help themselves. Keep that in mind if you decide to join.

the army is larger and has greater possibility for colleges and quicker merchandising. much less complicated to have a military occupation. Has it rather is very own Chaplains and scientific field. The Marine Corps is smaller and it rather is particularly not undemanding to reenlist. harder to get promoted and attend greater colleges. The Marine Corps gets its Corpsman(medics) and Chaplains from the army. military deployments are approximately around a year or longer. Marine deployments are approximately 6 months i've got heard, there is likewise of undertaking of being on a naval vessel specifically situations. the army is greater laid back, much less strict, much less disciplined yet greater spirit in instruments then the dept as an entire. The Marines are greater strict, greater disciplined as an entire and prideful in the completed branch instead of instruments. My dad replaced into in the Marines then military, he stated that the Marines have been far greater strict and he loved the army greater effectual because of the fact of it.

It all depends on what you want to do. They all have numerous jobs to do, but finding one that fits what YOU want to do is the main thing. I looked at all the branches before I enlisted (Navy), and found that what they offered fit MY GOALS. Sit down and think about what you want to do, get a definite idea of what is best for YOU, and then go talk to recruiters from all five branches and see which meets your needs. Don't let them talk you into something that you really aren't interested in. Stick to YOUR goals, and make them fit you, not you fit them.

i have served in the active army and the ohio army national guard. if you are going to join for college the national guard offers a great program for college 100% plus some. the active duty will pay for it as well but wont give you alot of time for college. the army and the air force will allow you to choose you job but the navy and the marine let you choose but if you dont qualify or they need you in anouther job you will go there. the army allows you to choose you job and puts it in writing that you will have this job till you choose to seek out anouther. i also am a recruiter for the national guard if you choose to join or want more information.

In the Air Force it seems more like rank is determined by time served and tests passed and less based on actual merit.

A lot of people who used to serve in the USAF may tell you its safer and you will be deployed less... won't get work outside the fence etc. That is no longer necessarily true, the AF does a lot of augmentee work with the Army these days because there simply aren't enough people to go around.

I also know several people in the Air Force who are leaving to go to the Army because they have been promised a $20,000 bonus and much much much better jobs... which will help them get better jobs later in life. Some of them are also fed up with the way people are not promoted because they are good at what they do, or because they exhibit the AFs core value, Integrity, but simply because they managed to stay out of too much trouble and pass a few tests. There is a lot of politicking involved in the AF.

Its not too bad, the AF... But there is a possibility that you will deploy yearly... its supposed to be a very small margin of people who are in the situation, but if it is, then I must know all of them.

When signing papers be very careful, I live in a military town and my neighbor was promised a $4,000 bonus he never got because they had him sign the wrong contract... it was only $4,000... but the thing is, if someone promises something they better keep their word.... plus the core value is integrity so its a little irking that they don't just look up his dates and give him his bonus, but they won't... oh well... a contract is a contract anyways... but thats just a cheap way of saying "we tricked you... possibly accidentally, but you didn't read it carefully, so its not our problem"

If you are single being military will be a lot more beneficial for you personally.

Wish I had better things to say... a single person can really get by pretty well in the military tho... Its much much harder for a family man /woman and his/her family. You can find time to go to college online if there isn't a decent one nearby... You'll have healthcare, you'll get to work around really cool things... you may even get to help some people out on your missions...

Just don't spend all of your money on a sports car and make smart decisions while you are in. Pay attention to all the fine print and keep abreast of your responsibilities and appointments.

Its true what Jeremy below says about the jobs... your job will depend on what you qualify for but even if you do qualify for what you want... altho you do get to "pick" your job... theres no guarantee you'll get it if your needed in another position.

So you know... just be prepared for anything... chances have appeared pretty good to me that people get what they want.

...however I know someone very close to me who signed the papers... the papers were filled out and the recruiter told him his job... he liked it... he wanted it... he could have used it... he was interested in it... it was a great job... the recruiter made a phone call... scratched out the code in the job section on the signed papers and wrote in something else... the person I know voiced his concern and the recruiter said it was just a confirmation code... It was only after he was in BMT or tech school that he found out his job was not at ALL what he was told... altho it was in the same broad category... he even tested extremely well on the ASVAB.

beware the recruiter and things that seem to good to be true, it might help to get all promises in writing... tho I'm not sure it would work....
