I mean they're not hurting anyone? And if Christians say it is a sin, don't we have freedom of religion? Why do they care what other people do that affects them in no way?

I'm straight but I just want to know what the big deal is.

Didn't they say it would be bad for the future generation if an African-American person and a white person got married?

The big deal is that some people hate all that is different.

Interracial marriage was illegal in at least one state less than ten years ago.

zombie2wolf: Do you believe that because your specific religion forbids something it should be outlawed?

YOUR RELIGION DOES NOT APPLY TO EVERYONE.

If you want to restrict the freedoms of others based on your beliefs, you oppose religious freedom. You're evil. You're no different that somebody whose barbaric religion forbids, say, interracial marriage and is not satisfied with not practicing it himself, but wants to prevent everybody else - even non-believers - from being allowed to do as they please.

You're the reason christians are hated and despised.

Not all those wanting to ban gay marriage are Christian, and not all Christians want to ban gay marriages. Not all Christians value freedom of religion, but some do. Not all Christians want theocracy in America - but some do.

But guess what - or who - is on the Haters agenda after gay marriage is permanently banned?

i am a beliver in the lord jesus and i love everyone i say let them be were not judges over them christ would not turn them away they made a choice but maybe if real belivers in the lord would show compassion for them and love they would have never turned that way.
U may wonder why i dont call myself a christian, because it is stupid this is not what jesus had in mind it has become a religion he never came for that he came to bridge the gap to establish a relationship with man not to make movies or merchandise in his name or crosses how sad and wrong it is.
but as to ur question well they know not what they do.it is more financially then spiritually for those of u who feel so dam righteous about religion just an excuse ; god is not fooled.

Ifeel the same way, who cares. They think nothing of sending gays to die in war or thousands of Americans can lay down there life. but to sound respectable about something they say gays can't marry. Does that stop homosexuals?
Or while the rich get rich and the poor poorer and they stip the country of everything they turn around and say yes, but we are against abortion. Big deal wait until they are 18 and then kill them in a foreign war.

It's ridiculous. Some just quote the bible passage saying that gay sex is an abomination, forgetting that marriage and sex are not the same thing. Some feel threatened, which is just stupid, because a) it doesn't affect them and b) straight people make a mess of marriage already.
Personally, I am suspicious that there is a hidden, darker reason that some people in the government are so against it. Maybe they think that our tax system would collapse or something... whatever. It's wrong to deny people marriage on the basis of sexuality.

Evidently, we don't have freedom of religion. You have the freedom to be subjected to a narrow interpretation of Christianity and sadly that's what passes for freedom these days.

Most folks who are pro same sex marriage want the civil right to be married by a judge.

Most folks who are anti same sex marriage say it is against God/Allah's will.

My preference is to allow homo couples to get married by a judge but don't force/require religious institutions to conduct marriages.

Civil Unions are not universally recognized and also do not provide all the benefits/pitfalls of marriage.

When one looks at our civil laws it seems they are based on the Bible. It is against the law to steal, murder. lie under oath, be nude in public, have sex in public, rape, sexually abuse children, use certain drugs, be married to more than one spouse at a time, etc. The Bible starts with the first couple which was a man and a women and God told them to be fruitful and multiply. The Bible speaks against incest, sex with animals and sex between two women or two men.

The majority of people in our society today do not want our definition of marrage to change in any way. They do not want the ideal nuclear family as the basic building block of our society since our beginning as a country, to change any more than it has already.

Same sex couples who show sexually charged affection in public around children will help to change our social norms by making it seem acceptable for same sex couples to have sex. Many Christians do not want their children exposed to same gender sexual type behavior in the public park, theater, mall, beach, amusement park, Disney World, on the cruise boat for normal people, etc. They see that behavior in public as a violation of their rates to have a safe environment to raise their children. By safe in this sense I mean to have our children learn the same morals and public behavior guidelines as we did as children.

This is an example of religion poking it's nose into politics. It's the job of Christianity to say this is wrong according to the Bible. Whether or not it should be allowed for those who don't claim to be Christian isn't a question for us. If someone gay claims to be Christian, that's a different question, but still not a political one.
