Has anyone ever thrown a stone in the water, and if so why ? why do we do it?

Its satisfying. Just the sound of the stone breaking through the upper surface of the water an in to the deep water proper. You can almost guess what sound each time of weighted stone will make. They you get in to competition with friends on who can throw furthest. And skimming stones are even better. .. my record is 9 bounces.

Do the stone's stay in the water or some how get back out,because there's always stone's there to throw in, no how much of a common place it is. I think it's the plopping sound, to see how deep it is.
And then we have to have ago at skimming,and then finally to see how far we can throw, til we nearly wrench our arms out.

Skimming stones to see how many times they bounce. Sometimes I just chuck in a big stone to hear it PLOP

I like to skip stones. I love to throw anything. Footballs, baseballs, basketballs....I almost always throw the garbage away like it's gonna be two points.

Hmm... I never thought of that. I suppose it could be an instinct learnt by man a long time ago, in hopes of killing a fish for a meal perhapps? i don't know... Ill have to research that.

I've done it, but normally there's a body attached with a chain connected to a cement block. Faghetaboutit!

I do it to see the water ripple, to hear the 'plop' sound , and to see the water splash up when you throw it in!

it looks cool especially if you throw more than once at a time like maybe a handful of little ones the big rocks look cool with the big spash
