Many people are well aware that participating here has helped several people, including me, lose whatever faith they had left. I see far more "deconversions" than conversions here, and perhaps this bothers people.
OR maybe it's because some religious folks are not used to having their views challenged. Maybe they spend their time with other people who think just like them, and aren't exposed to atheism, Buddhism, Islam, Paganism, etc. much, so they come here expecting to find only people who belong to their faith and they only want to hear from those who are likely to agree with them.
Maybe it's because they know that we're not here out of any kind of desire, conscious or subconscious, to hear their "truth", and they feel uncomfortable.
I don't know, it could be many things, but what it boils down to it the same in-group vs. out-group mentality that you find in the Bible (the "pearls before swine" incident comes to mind). I don't pay much attention to it...I answer any question that interests me.

The only problem I have with labels is that they seem to *always* exclude me from answering questions.
It's always either "christians" or "atheists". Even though as the members of other belief systems we have views on our own. Just as strong, just as valid (or empty).
I can understand that certain questions target a certain group of people for specific reason of those people knowing more about that (ex.: Asatruar, what is the difference between a blot and a sumbel... or something).
However, I do get annoyed when people ask a question that obviously requires JUST an opinion, and limit the group of answerers with the intention to only receive agreeing answers. (ex: christians, isn't it beautiful to know that jesus loves you....) Those make me sick, angry and provoke me to go answering the questions uninvited ;)

Could you imagine if you had to qualify your beliefs before posting or answering any questions here? I would lose patience with that very quickly.
You don't have to be here long to learn the drill - the questions you see posted may or may not be from someone who shares your views, and if you do post you may receive answers by someone whose opinions differ as well. Many of the people complaining are those who know this, so my question to them would be why are you still here?
I, personally, am open-minded enough to appreciate the broad spectrum of people who are here. I wish more users could, and if they can't then maybe they need to find a place that strictly embraces their mindset.

Because almost everyone is looking for an answer.
Putting a label on anything makes it easier to refer to. Can you imagine talking about something that has no name, designation or individuality.
Loosen up, we are all her for the same thing - answers.

It's why I hate labels. People cannot see past the label to the person behind it. There is common ground to be found with everyone here on one topic or another, but people are focusing on labels instead.

Sometimes I ask questions towards one group simply to gain further insight from one group. I also feel that I have better control of the situation calling out one group at a time. I prefer to do it that way then to have total Anarchy and chaos.

Some of us use it to make a point. I am drawn to all questions regarding salvation, gay marriage, abortion, atheists, evolution, and those addressed to nonbelievers in general. As a deist, I am a believer though many fundies do not see me that way.

How come you and The Seal asked the same question?
Nevermind... I am dumb, he just starred it...
Because, like in anything, people are reluctant to move over to new ideas and give space to different kinds of people.

Because Christians get tired of looking unintelligent. So they'd rather we intelligent, free-thinking, "sinners" not post on the R&S... oh well. I'm not going anywhere!
