Double standard for sure. Illegal activites by our elected officials should not be excused.

To answer the question, not respond to the link....

It depends on the severity of the crime. Misdemeanors have to happen in an officer's presence in order to arrest. So I could walk up to a cop and say I smoked pot yesterday and he couldn't do a damn thing. In some states it is different, but if you admit to a felony a police officer can arrest you if it's serious enough.

Well officer I am sorry I just happened to murder that person...Oh well you're free to go then...It certainly would depend on the law you broke. Many officers might give you a caution for driving too fast and tell you to slow down, but others for the same offence may take further action.
