My husband came home with a rice cooker, which doubles as a steamer. If you have or had one, did you think it was useful enough to justify the space it takes up?

if its a good one, yes, they are great. Cheaper ones are not so good-they usually burn the rice on the bottom. I have a wolfgang puck model, that I got from hsn for about 25 dollars. I use it at least once a day, often more. You can make oatmeat in them, rice, of course, one pot mac and cheese, cous cous, quinoa, etc. I use the steamer basket to steam veggies while the other stuff cooks. Super easy clean up-I wouldnt be without it. In fact, I am going to order a bigger version soon, and will use both. I don't like having stuff sitting on my counter, but I use this too often to put it away. Good luck with yours

My family owns a rice cooker, but that's because we eat rice almost every day. It's really helpful and there's even a Quick Cook button on it, which cooks the rice in less than an hour. It's easy and saves time, and doesn't take up a whole lot of space, so it could just be sitting on one side of your counter, next to your toaster and microwave or something.

My old roomate had one. I hated it. Even though we had it, I still cooked rice in a pot on the stove. You just have more control that way. When he used the cooker, the edges and bottom were always dry and crusty.

I use my steamer/rice cooker alot and it almost always turns out perfect rice. But it all depends on how much you eat steamed veggies and rice.

Mine went out in the last garage sale. I can cook rice on top of the stove .... no problem. As for veggies, I steam those in the microwave.

I sold mine at a garage sale. I make very good rice in a heavy-duty sauce pan with a tight-fittling lid and have a small kitchen where cabinet space is at a premium.
