I will only be impressed when they do it the way God did in the beginning. Form it out of dirt, and then breathe life into it.

(OH! And make your own dirt first!)

Reply to marc p: Where do the chemicals come from? Create something (chemicals) out of nothing. Then make it the way God did. I say dirt, you say chemicals. Cool. Make the chemicals from nothing. Then breathe life into them. That is what it would take for me to be impressed by scientists creating life.

WHEN scientists create life? Good luck with that. It also wouldn't prove anything. Just because scientists, with a wealth of knowledge can do something, it doesn't mean it could happen by chance. Scientists can make a rocket and send people to the moon. Are you saying that given enough time, a rocket would appear by itself on earth, be pointed at just the right angle, and fly someone to the moon? Getting someone to the moon is actually far simpler that creating life or matter, yet you claim this could happen.

Man can only take already 'existing' life and create life from it! God is not working through the geneticists, but I'll bet dollars to doughnuts, the Devil is making them look!!
The odds of any scientist being able to create even ONE DNA molecules in some test tube somewhere is way beyond the mathematical possibilty of something actually taking place! Let alone, creating a living cell . . . only God can do that!!!

Whatever they use to create that life was provided by God in the first place. Plus, no matter how much cloning they do, they can't create a soul. And that, Bucko is what sets us apart from the animal kingdom.

I believe it will happen...and the moral implications of so doing are profound and troubling..

To dusty scribe above..it will not be done with dirt but with chemicals which are the building blocks of DNA...BTW we are not made of dirt either, but I don't expect a bronze age writer to include advanced organic chemical engineering in his writings.

A scientist's ability to create life would not affect my religious beliefs. I wouldn't need any 'excuse'.

I won't have an excuse, I would never try to play God in the first place, and I pity those that do. They don't have to answer to me, it's God that will dish out their punishment.

IF scientists created life,I wouldn't consider them human

I guess I would offer that I don't really need an excuse to believe in God. He has proven Himself to me so many times it would be foolish for me to not believe in and serve Him.
