I personally don't have any children of my own, so I'm not sure I'm completely qualified to answer this question, but this is what I do know. Often in our lives we equate forgiveness with trust. We say that if a person is forgiven they must also be trusted. I can firmly say that this is not the case. I believe that you can forgive anyone that may have wronged you or your children in the past, despite the fact that you no longer trust them.
This is partially due the fact that I believe that true forgiveness implies no ill will towards the person who has wronged you (or your children.) In this case, just because you forgive someone does not mean that you should not learn from your past mistakes and trust that person with your children again.
I think that my belief that renewed trust does not necessarily come with forgiveness would give me the strength to forgive anyone of anything, though again I am not a parent, so I have never had that bond with one of my children.

I would forgive someone of bad things if they were truly sorry and would never do the bad things again. The things you are hinting at though, rape, torture, murder. Everything I have ever read or seen about the people that do these kinds of things- they never feel sadness or regret about the things they do. They usually repeat the things they do. I would not forgive someone who did not feel bad, does not feel remorse for what they have done. Why forgive someone who has no pity or love. Someone who will always hurt others?

First of all, if this person is still in contact with your child and harm is being perpetuated and continues, either get out of the situation or report this individual to the appropriate authority. Secondly, forgiveness is definately divine. We don't have within our nature to let go of hurts and pains. God sent His Son Jesus to die. He was hurt and bruised and beaten and died. That was so very painful to God, yet He forgives and offers reconciliation to each of us. I don't think that we can do that to others without the help of His Spirit to give us supernatural divine forgiveness. If the person that hurt the child was going to do it again, you should forgive but protect your child. Do not allow the hurt to persist. Forgiveness and protection should be distinguished.

Jesus said that if we are angry without a reason that we are in danger, not if we are angry with a reason. Someone harming your child is the best reason I think to be angry. But, ya know, religion or not, if you hate someone for the rest of your life you are only doing damage to yourself, not the person you hate. It destroys your life, not theirs. Anger and hatred feed upon themselves and turn you into a shadow of what you once were and leaves you bitter, hateful and most of the time - alone.

The peace comes through knowing that God is soverign and works out all things to his glory. He does not cause evil, but he can work with it and use it.

- the Bible tell us to forgive not forget- and it dosen't mention how long it may take for this to happen in your life- but it does say you need to come to this solution--- prayer and fasting- sorry if this has happened to your loved one---
