dogs don't fathom that eating their poop is wrong. after all, Mom did it when we were puppies! they learn that from Mom, keeping the nest clean, and then some of them just carry it through as a habit when they are older.
the only sure solution, is to pick it up before he can eat it, so he learns to trust that YOU will keep it clean for him.
You can put the product 'Forbid' on his food, which turns the poop very bitter, ( at pet stores) or pineapple chunks, or Meat Tenderizer.(papaya extract)
All of those make poop unpalatable, but taste fine with his food.
It is not from some mysterious vitamin or mineral lacking in his diet, nor from being hungry.

I am going to be honest I do not know the answer to your problem, but in being around dogs all of my life, and a few trainer's here and there, i have learned that a dog will eat or harm there young if they since that something is wrong with them. The best way i would think to break him of it would be to put the pups somewhere to where he could not get to them. I am surprized that the female lets him get close enough to harm the pups normally they are very protective over there young until they think that they have gotten old enough to take care of them selves.

there are a few reasons why your dog may want to eat his feces... one could be a poor diet. are your feeding him a high quality food? if so is he eating enough? or getting too many treats or table scrapes? this all could lead to nutrient deficiency, this will cause a dog to eat his own poo. another reason is if your dog has allot of accidents in the house and is punished severely. you may have accidentally trained him that pooping in general is bad and he'll eat it to try to get rid of it.. in the mean time they sell stuff at the pet store that you can put in their food that makes them not want to eat the feces, it makes it really nasty to them. (i know its already gross but this stuff really works) if you do not want to go spend the money on the stuff at the pet store its allot cheaper to go buy meat tenderizer and add a little to the food, it works the same way. in any case i would make sure you go to see the vet to make sure there are no underlying health issues. hope this works out â¥
