When I asked her how she found me, she was hesitant at first and tried to get me to talk about myself. I only gave her a small amount and then repeated myself. She said it was through a dating agency I don't susbcribe to. Was I right to block her IM?

Yes thats how scams start they get your trust then say there in trouble and ask for money....You were smart!!!!!

You shudda played her for a while. Tell her nothing truthful but say things to keep her interested. Then when she asked you for money, tell her that you will give her money but she will have to open an account in your name to deposit the money in.
When she opens the account, take her money and run.

yeah, if you didn't know her before, you aren't missing out on anything by not talking to her. If its totally random, I am sure she moved onto harassing someone else by now. Move on.
