Every time I boil raw nuts the darn things turn dark brown and that also ruins the taste! How do you boil peanuts and keep them their natural whitish color?

First off, being a lifelong Southerner, I have to say I have never seen white boiled peanuts.....they always turn dark.

IF they are boiled correctly their taste is wonderful, but you have to remember to salt the water. Secondly, its always best to use fresh peanuts for superior flavor. If those aren't available, the 2nd best option is to use dried peanuts....wash them and sort out the nasty looking ones and let them soak for an hour, or so....then add to boiling salt water. Check them starting at 45 minutes to see their tenderness, and go from there....I would suggest keeping the lid on the pot, too.

Lastly, I would never eat a peanut from a can....but that's just me, I suppose.

Good luck.

The shells will naturally turn dark because of being soaked in water. I use 1 cup salt per gallon of water to boil mine. It takes about 3 hours to get to "done". I sample mine while cooking to make sure I don't overcook them.

They are suppose to be brown, but not black. Add salt to the water *when boiling them*. I made some and they were really nasty but the salt made it SO much better! If they are too dark of a color, boil them less and taste test them along the way.

U need to make sure you are getting "NEW crop peanuts" These are the ones that are white and soft.. the others turn brown and the peanuts turn red and are harder. So make sure you are buying the right type.
