can you buy a o.e.m vista premium if you are building a p.c,or do you need to be a company such as mesh or dell
i ask as there is a massive difference in retail price
read this..If the individual software license is a desktop operating system (including Windows XP Media Center Edition), we grant you a nonexclusive right to distribute individual software licenses; provided that each one is distributed with either (a) a fully assembled computer system or (b) a nonperipheral computer hardware component.

A “fully assembled computer system” means a computer system consisting of at least a central processing unit, a motherboard, a hard drive, a power supply, and a case.
A “nonperipheral computer hardware component” means a component that will be an integral part of the fully assembled computer system on which the individual software license will be installed.
will i be able to purchase a o.e.m copy of vista premium
thanks guys

You can purchase an OEM version of Vista. You do NOT need to be a business to do this, you CAN be an ordinary member of the public.

Sm bm is correct OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer, which you would be if you built your own computer. However Microsoft in their wisdom choose this to mean those who make and sell computers. Basically it's a rip off, but not one we poor punters can do anything about. More annoying is the huge difference in the price in the US once again we get screwed. My advice after looking at all the problems so far with Vista, many games won't run until patches are released, lots of hardware printers etc aren't supported and bugs in the system being discovered is to wait. Use XP which is now a good stable system until Microsoft relase a service pack for Vista or try Linux which is free. Good Luck

Try CCLonline or Misco for the best deals on OEM copies of Vista and what exactly you need to buy in order to qualify.
see here
http://www.cclonline.com/helpcentre/index.htm
Remember that OEM copies are tied to the motherboard so if that goes, you need a new OS as well as a new motherboard; also if you use an OEM to dual boot on a system with another version of Windows already installed, you are in breach of the EULA.

There's been a lot of fuss recently about installing Vista cleanly by using an upgrade instead
http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/winvista_upgrade_clean.asp
- Microsoft accepts that this is a technical loophole but maintains that it is a breach of the terms of agreement when the upgrade was purchased. These days you need to be a propeller-head and a lawyer....

Untrue. OEM is meant for anyone who builds pcs and who feel confident about supporting the operating system themselves ie Microsoft will not offer technical support to anyone using OEM versions of its operating systems. It used to be required that they be bought with a hard drive or motherboard but that requirement has now been set aside and they can simply be bought on their own.

I have built only a few pcs and have always used OEM versions as I can always find the support I need from other users if I can't work it out myself.
