I'm a groomer, and I think its really cool that she is interested in becoming one. I also think its wonderful that you support her. Groomers CAN make alot of money if they are good.

First of all, theres alot more to brushing a dog than people realize. Believe me I know this for a fact. I have people come in all the time and assure me that they brush their dogs daily, but when I start brushing them I find out that they are not doing such a great job. Brushing a dog properly is one of the most important steps in grooming. Alot of people that have thick coated breeds brush the top of the coat and dont realize that they need to get hair under the top part. (this is assuming you dont have a short coated breed)
With a thick coat, you should always be sure to follow through with a *comb* and make sure your reaching the skin when you go through the hair! You have to seperate into sections as you do this.

I would suggest buying her a book or going to the library and finding a book on grooming your dog at home.
Find out what type of brush you need for the breed you have.
And of course dont forget to get a wide tooth wire comb.
Remind her to be *gentle* also, because you can scratch their skin!

Hope this helps some.
It would really help if I knew what breed you have.
You could also call around and see if you could find a groomer that would be willing to set an appointment with her to show her how to brush the dog.

Some people are suggesting taking her and leaving her with a groomer for the day, but I dont think your going to find someone willing to do that.
Groomers are very busy, and there is a liability issue that you have to realize would make most of groomers say no way.
People need to realize that it is a work place, and having a minor there could cause serious safety concerns just like any other job.

My sister wants to groom dogs as well. She's the same age as your daughter, ironically. You should buy her some brushes, shampoo & conditioner, and a dog bath.

That's what she says she wants to use to groom dogs.

I think you should just go to Petco and get some cheap grooming supplies for her to have fun with.

Hope this helps.

:)

Perhaps you could arrange for her to hang out with a dog groomer for a day, learn some 'tricks of the trade' as well as what supplies she'll need.

what kind of dog is she going to groom?? this sounds weird.. all dogs need grooming,, we groom our dogs daily,, doesn't make us dog groomers.. do you mean she wants to go to school or something???? get a dog brush... i wouldn't let her trim nails until she has been shown properly how to do that,, same with scaling teeth, cleaning ears , expressing anal glands... perhaps you could take your child to a grooming shop and she can watch the groomers there

Does she have a long haired or short haired dog? I have Dobies an I use a rubber-knobby tool I use on my horses--It massages an loosens dry skin an hair--then I use a soft brush to wipe them off--Long haired dogs reguire more tools according to type of breed-some you can just brush an some need hair cuts!

If there are breeders near your house, comtact them about letting her do some volunteer work in their kennels. There are also some books and dvd's at petsmart that teach grooming for different breeds.
