I really like corkscrews, or rotini shapes for any type of pasta dish. They hold sauce, but don't retain water. No matter how well you drain it, and shake the colander, there's always some water in elbow noodles. I hate that.

I think the best shape would be anything with as many twists and turns as you can find - PLENTY of places to keep the cheese on the pasta! Shells would be great, fusili, etc...

Shells! Those are my favorites. But when I was a kid, I liked the regular elbow noodles.

the shells because the cheese rest inside the shell and then burst in your mouth when you eat it. you get yummy comfort goodness when you eat them
