I'm thirteen, and I love taekwondo. The first lesson was hard, my lungs were on fire and my legs were jello, yet I knew it was the sport I wanted to take. You have to have determination, and you can't be a quitter. If you're a quitter, you'll never even make it past the first lesson.
I know a lot of people flame it, saying it doesn't do you any good, but I beg the differ. It makes you stronger and fitter, you become more confident, and...if anyone angers you, you can say "Hey, I'm a blackbelt in Taekwondo. Don't mess with me or I'll kick you where it hurts." (I love saying this to guys when they're giving me crap. Mwahahaha! Don't mess with this girl!)
All around, I love Taekwondo, and I'm always trying to do my best. No matter what happens, I won't give up!

yes, I'm a third Dan...
for one of the other answers, obviously you are young because you classified every single person that studies tae kwon do into one group....you have obviously fought the non-traditional and Americanized forms, not the traditional Korean form.
anyone who believes that it is bad for actual fighting has obviously had a poor instructor...and it takes time, it's not all about promoting to the next belt...traditionally it should take about 4 years to earn your black belt...
they've toned it down since i got mine...my test was 10 hours long...now they're only about 3-4...

yes i do and i love it. im a 13 yr old girl so it is a very unique thing for me to do compared to other girls my age. I'm actually becomin a black belt in about 3 months. I hope to do it for the rest of my life due to many improvements in my lifestyle. this includes extra focus, saftey, raised test grades, and behavior. I've also kept in shape while other girls around me become slightly chubbier

I take it, and not for the "fighting" or w/e. I take it for the self-discipline and overall knowledge. I really enjoy the classes. I don't think you should take any form of Martial Arts just so you can fight. That's lame, immature and very poor use of the knowledge. Just go street fight and save yourself some money.

Not anymore! I got tired of being riped off!!! No one should have to sit at the rank of a green belt for 3 years as I did, especially when their ranked 2nd in the entire state they live in for forms competition.
