First of all not all the canadians, like the japanese and their doliphins, go hunting for seals, right now many ppl are trying to ban seal hunting in canada. Infact many of the seal hunters arent Canadian, the majority are american. many protesters are canadian and some have been attacked and in a few cases killed by the hunters becuz they scare away the seals.

Dont try to argue something you haven't done the research on before hand, and dont make judgement one 1 factor

It's only a minority of Canadians and I guess you could find fault with minority groups in every country.

I don't have any objection to the traditional Inuit seal hunting but I don't agree with the wholesale slaughter of seals for their pelts or to sell the meat for profit, largely in Asian markets.

However, this is only one aspect of Canadian life practiced by a small number of people in a limited area during certain times of the year. Whilst it may not be the best advert for Canada I don't think it is grounds in itself to demote the whole of Canada and it's population from the status of being a first world country.

I would be nice if seal hunting were limited only to necessity and not greed and lust but where there's money to be made it's often difficult to implement changes.

There is nothing wrong with the seal hunt. In fact seal hunting methods were studied by the Royal Commission on Seals and Sealing in Canada and it found that the clubbing of seals, when properly performed, is at least as humane as, and often more humane than, the killing methods used in commercial slaughterhouses, which are accepted by the majority of the public.
I suggest that you are really ignorant of the realities of the hunt and are operating based on intentionally incorrect statements put out by PETA, the Sea Shepherds, and others of that ilk. Do the research for yourself.

dont really know much about this , so : if the seals are being killed for food/resources , fair enough, and dont see the problem associated with it . If they're being killed due to them eating food 'meant' for our table [which I believe may be the case? ] , maybe just let overfishing sort out their population that way ?
If you've got qualms because they look cute , so do sheep / rabbits /pheasant / deer
and if it's because of them being 'vermin', foxes look really nice as well
