In the United States, it's definitely not allowed. First of all, the movie theaters want you to buy their food. Second of all, could you imagine being in a cramped theater and someone brings some stinky food? It would be unbearable.

However, in other countries, it's perfectly okay to bring outside food. Japan and the Phillippines are two examples. My aunt and her husband once brought a little picnic basket with wines and cheeses to the movies! :)

I've never been in a movie theater that allowed people to bring in outside food. I've seen people bring in Mcdonalds and other fast foods and the smell is overpowering - you should eat a meal before you get to the theater. If you want to bring your own food, sneak in little things like candy or pop.

Yes, even though I don't really agree with it, but if outside food were permitted they would have to allow everyone to bring in whatever they like. If that happened they'd have to charge more for tickets because the majority of profits for the theatre come from the food sales. So if you don't mind paying double for your movie tickets and don't mind half of the theatres closing, go right ahead.

It is not allowed in movie theaters. They have their own food to sell . Movie Theaters make the most money by selling from their concession stand.and it interrupts some movie watchers having to listen to you eat.

You would get lucky to get past the front door.

The theatre wants you to buy their product (unchristly expensive popcorn, etc.), but could you imagine if I brought in my take out currie, someone their take out Chinese, someone else, McD, etc.

What a horrible stench that would be.

I always sneak in my own candy. Refuse to pay theatres for this.
