My friend has been 'dealing' with this girl for a few months now and it is her birthday soon. She told him that she doesnt not want a gift repeatedly. I think that he should get her something, but he thinks that she really doesn't want a present. Does she or not?

oh trust me, she does and she'll be very disappointed if she doesn't get anything. doesn't have to be something big or valuable, but at least a box of chocolates and some flowers...

She may not be comfortable at this point in the relationship to accept anything substantial. The gift should be commensurate with the maturity of the relationship, if you understand what I mean. You don't give a girl a pair of diamond earrings if you've been seeing her for 2 weeks. There are women that will feel weird about that.
So I would say that your friend ought to not make the girl feel awkward, but don't ignore her birthday completely either. Get her one long stemmed rose of the appropriate color. Get a small stuffed bear. Take her out to dinner or a special place to have fun. In other words, make a gesture to let her celebrate her birthday, but don't scare her with it. The sentiment of what he gives is more important than what he gives.

Basically, nothing material. He should make her a nice dinner. This shows he cares about her, and remembered, adn aslo respected her wishes about the presant. She didn't say anything about dinner, thoughtfulness. Good Luck

tell him not to get her a tangible gift. like a necklace or something. but he should take her out to dinner. it still says, "i remembered your birthday" without going against her wishes of not getting her something.
at least that's what i want my b/f to do when i tell him not to get me a gift. and i love when he takes me out!

OF COURSE SHE WANTS SOMETHING!!! when a girl says she doesnt want her guy 2 get her something its because she doesnt want 2 sound bitchy or something---shes acting like she doesnt care when she really does and if he doesnt get her something...itll hurt her feelings.
