How much time or money have you contributed to the American Red Cross or the Salvation Army? Or are you demanding government aid?
I served the hurricane victims with the Red Cross for 5 weeks. How about you?

I completely believe that the focus of the United States must be on the refugees of Katrina from New Orleans and the bayou region. New housing, infrastructure, and helpful volunteers are needed to relocate the victims of that terrible storm. However, founding an entire city below sea level is foolish already, and focusing perhaps $100 billion on the city that will only be ravaged again is not in the best interests of the nation, the economy, or the victims. There is one simple solution to the mess: abandon the city. Relocate the entire population to a new planned community farther inland (as Brazil did with its capital city), or wisely develop an existing city for the citizens to move to (perhaps Baton Rouge or Monroe). Throwing money will not help, but hinder, and we must not make the same mistake of building directly in harm's way again.

Louisiana is poor. The Louisiana government and law enforcement agencies, like many in poor states, are riddled with corruption. Because the state has few resources, the public schools are not great and haven't been for generations. The population of the poorer and (sorry but its true) ethnic minorities have not had the benefit of education and enculturation to give them the intellectual or attitudinal skills necessary to rebuild a life - many were just barely making it before the storm. :ouisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia need a great deal of help in these areas to come up to par. It used to be true of Arkansas, but under Bill Clinton the education system there was overhauled and it made a huge difference. We need higher standards for teachers and students, not this phony everybody can win program in place now.

It is not a problem of more help it is a problem of laziness and red tape, there is enough money already to help they just spend it on stupid sh*t that they don't need and overpay for things that are not needed. I live in New Orleans and rented an apartment in Lake view I took six feet of water and lost nintey to nintey five percent of everything I own including a car, I got the inital help from fema and now i am on my own not complaining or relying on others for free government handouts. The lazy people of new orleans are still waiting for handouts and government checks where i have gotten off my A** and done something for my self instead of waiting for others to do it for me. The mayor and governer are a bunch of idiots who can't get anything straight. They should have more done than they do and they have a back log of billions of dollars to hadn out but none of them have figured out where to start except for overpaying for things. The only parish that has any sense of what the hell they are doing is st bernard parish. They have got their act together and they were completely destroyed where as the rest of the parishes were only partially hit. contrary to popular belief at least one third of the city of new orleans was not flooded, the entire parish of st bernard was hit and i think that like nine houses were untouched by the flood waters. Sorry i have gone on a rant here, the long and short is enough has been given just the governments in louisana need to figure out what to do with it and the people need to get over themselves and quit waiting for others to help them.

It is NOT my (or the rest of the taxpaying public's) responsibility to help people TOO STUPID to understand the words "flood insurance"! I know many former Louisianans who took their insurance money, relocated & made a comfortable, happy new life for themselves. I also see tens of thousands more who are running Texas into bankruptcy by sucking off of our welfare system, committing crimes & sitting around on their a**es!
BTW, this is NOT a race issue! The most successful couple I know who came from Louisiana are black. However, unlike many others, they did not sit around the Superdome waiting to be rescued! I tried to help with relief efforts for people flooding into Texas, but too many of the people I encountered were whiny & ungrateful. I- wish-I-was President Perry should've done like Mississippi's governor & send the Louisianans north!

Because it's already been over a year and the press has stopped paying attention to it and no one really cares anymore that people's homes are still destroyed and all these people are still displaced from their homes.
Also, I have a feeling that the money that's going there isn't getting to the people who need it most.

Because at this point we would only be giving money to people who are too lazy to do anything for themselves.
