You should bring him to your vet sometime soon. It's not good when pets, especially seniors are not eating and losing weight. You probably want to have bloodwork done to see if he has any abnormal values. Good luck!

Has the cat been treated for worms? If he needs a worm treatment call a vet and they can prescribe it (you may have to take the cat in). It is cheap and VERY effective.

It sounds like the cat needs to visit the vet..... given the cats age, there are a number of things that could be causing these symptoms.

Good luck

Congratulations Alexandra on having a cat for 21 years, that's a pretty good, long life for any cat and you deserve a lot of credit for the love and dedication to your pet.

A couple of previous posters are probably correct in that your cat may have developed a kidney disease.

My 20 year old Calico, Maya, developed similar symptoms a few years ago. When I finally got her to the Vet it turns out she had developed CRF, Chronic Renal Failure...
her kidneys had given out.

The CRF was determined through a blood test at the Vet's and she was treated with an IV and I was asked to make one of the toughest decisions of my life, but it was simply time for her to go.

I took solace in the fact that Maya enjoyed 20 long years of comfort and happiness, giving me the same love in return.

I hope your cat has something other than CRF that can be easily treatable but whatever it might be, you need to get her to your Vet as soon as possible.
Good luck!

I'm so sorry. You must be very worried. Is he drinking water? I have a 15 year old cat who had a stroke 3 days ago. The vet prescribed a few things to strengthen him back up, as his heart is strong, but despite all of my attempts, he also, is not eating, but is drinking. Regardless, you do need to get him to the vet. It may be as simple as arthritis, and that you need to raise up the food bowl. It could however, be something that requires medical treatment. I am trying boiled chicken, cut up very finely along with kitten food. Good luck to both of you.

When a cat stops eating it usually means they are very sick and need to be taken to the vet ASAP. Another sign that he is really sick is that he isn't grooming himself as often.

If he isn't sick but just getting older the vet will be able to provide you with a perscription food that most cats will eat even if they won't eat anything else.

Good Luck. I hope that everything goes well.

If you cat is 21 yrs old, I think its time you consider putting him down. If he's refusing to eat, and is losing weight, this could be a serious medical problem. It's hard to lose a pet, but if he is in pain, it's the best option. Good Luck.

Use an eyedropper and force feed him baby kitten milk that you can get at a pet store, regular milk (warmed up), or wet baby food. Anything with calories and nutrients. Even regular cat food blended up in a blender to make it very wet adding water to it. But make sure he at least gets water. Don't let him dehydrate.

First thing is first, take him to the vet. He is most likely sick with something. The same thing happened to my cat when she was 8. She had lung failure and she wasnt eatting her food. Or anyhting that we gave her. Changes are the your cat is jsut sick and needs to be taken to the vet you don't want him suffering anymore. Hope it goes well.
