Ok, I went with my first instinct and got a spoon and took out the black spots is it still unsafe to eat?

Would you like to eat it and get sick? I sure hope not because it's mold and it is 100% unsafe for the human body and it could be fatal if eaten as is, so throw it away no matter what and go buy a new thing of cool whip now if you want to eat some.

It could be mold. Did you make something with oreos or anything black, and it could just be crumbs? If you're not totally sure, thow it out.

I would'nt eat it unless its French Vanilla flavor, in which case, most French Vanilla flavored things has dark specks of vanilla beans n it.
