My sister was adopted from Bangladesh as a baby. Her given name was Shilpi. Can you tell from this name whether she came from a Hindu or Muslim family?

She was born in 1975. We were told that her father had died. We don't know HOW he died.

It actually could be either. Shilpi is a common name in Bangladesh and people of both religions could very well be naming their daughters Shilpi. Statistically of course, she probably came from a Muslim family because most people in Bangladesh are Muslims. There is no real way of finding out for sure just by the name. I've seen Muslim girls with the name.

Actually the name Shilpi is a Hindu name. Meaning in English "Sculpture". I think you can change her name to Muslim name.

Cheers.
