My puppy is 10 months old. When we go to work we used to put him in his crate. The other day I came home and he had chewed the metal crate and had gotten out. He was so anxious to get out that he had filed down some of his teeth and his mouth was bleeding. Lately we've been leaving him out when were gone except now he started chewing everything including the couch when we are gone. His appetite has also changed. He used to eat his food as soon as I put it in his bowl now I have to force him to eat. I leave him toys when I leave that he can chew. I leave music/tv on for background noise. I even bought this plug-in that puts out pheramones in the air that's supposed to help dog's anxiety. Nothing has worked.

You might try the Chamomile tea therapy. You can give him chamomile tea. dump it out of the tea bag, and mix one teaspoon of the dry tea for a small or toy breed, up to one tablespoon for a large breed. Mix it in a little soft or canned food or meat. You feed this about 20-30 minute before you are leaving, and as often as needed to help him relax and hav a sense of well-being..It is safe for him.

Separation anxiety seems to be an epidemic among the dogs of busy, working people, and that’s not at all surprising. It is normal for a dog or pack-oriented animal to feel anxious or panicky when left alone. They are not programmed to be by themselves. Only rarely is a natural dog pack ever separated.

But since most people must leave the house to work or run an errand, the best way to ease our dogs into this very unnatural situation is to make it as natural as possible for them. We can accomplish this is if we send them into a resting mode before leaving the house. First thing in the morning, wear your dog out with the most vigorous exercise possible. It’s a win-win situation for us too because most of us could use a lot more exercise! And feed your dog after you exercise him, so he feels like he’s earned his reward.

After an ideal morning like that, it will make sense to a dog to rest when you leave. If this becomes their everyday routine, the anxiety will begin to taper off because a lot of that nervous energy will have been spent by the time you leave the house."

placed funds right into a crate and crate your dogs whilst y ou are no longer homestead. I accompanied a 10 month previous lab shepherd husky mixture from the pound and he had a severe case of separation rigidity. It became tough until now each and every thing (i'm no longer likely to lie to you) yet he now is calm and feels secure in his kennel. He won't be in a position to be damaging, injure himself, eat some thing poisonous, etc whilst he's in a kennel. yet another dogs maaaayyy help. Our 2d dogs helped a sprint - yet no longer sufficient to justify getting a 2d dogs for that reason on my own. in case you like a 2d dogs - they're super companions on your chum - then by making use of all ability get one, yet do no longer anticipate separation rigidity to flow away. whilst canines are area of a %., whilst one is going away, the others get agitated. whilst mom leaves, the puppied whine. yet a kennel could make him sense secure and facilitates him to loosen up. So i might get a kennel first until now anticipating the 2d dogs to repair each and every thing (as nicely what might ensue if the 2d dogs additionally has separation rigidity - you won't have a house left once you come back from a short trip to the food market!!)

Well, this might not answer your question, but I have a Weimaraner and he got locked up and started to dislike my mom a little. We took him to a psyciatrist (yes, there are doggie psyciatrists) and he was perscribed Doggie Prozac, but we did not see rezults. (Please take into concideration retraining or when you leave, DO NOT tell your dog you are leaving. Just pick up everything you need and leave. Do not say goodbye.) Please make sure that your dog is comftorable if you must leave. Do not force your dog to eat, he will eat when he is hungry. Turn the TV on and put it on Animal Planet, and most of the pharamone things do not work. Play with your dog and make sure that he is well excercised. If you take him on a run before you go to work, he will be tired and most likely will not chew the couch up. I wish you the best of luck witrh your dog!

Might not be separation anxiety. Call your vet and ask for help. If you need a vet I have an awesome one and will be happy to give you the info to her.
