I had two parakeets but one recently died. The other one is starting to look a little lonely. His feathers aren't as clean as they use to be and he's not really talking. Should I get him another parakeet so he has company?

If you don't handle him and aren't already his significant other, then my opinion is that he needs another budgie. They can actually die from separation from a mate. It's been documented over and over again in the journals that if they have a significant other (human or bird) and lose that being, then they grieve and can actually die from it. The reason he's dirty is because your other budgie probably preened him and kept him clean. Without that other bird, he's at a loss for what to do.

Yep! Get him another bird. But, once the bird is in your home, you need to keep them separated for 30 days in different rooms and different air sources (a lot of illnesses in the avian world can be transmitted via air) and then if your new bird is still ok, you can introduce them.

Good luck!

In use to own parakeets they always seem to work out better when there is 2 of them together. The experts say if you leave a bird alone and spend more time with it it will learn to talk faster. Good luck

particular you ought to get your chook a companion. Birds are flock animals and prefer corporation. additionally a chook does not must be hand fed to make a good puppy. I breed cockatiels and all the infants have been raised by way of their mum and dad and that all of them grew to grow to be very loving as long because of the fact the owner spends time with them.

you should get him a companion, unless you have lots of time to spend with him. but like everybody ur probably busy and can't stay with the bird every minute of the day so you should get a companion for the bird so he'll have company while your gone

Yes! He's depressed. We lost a keet about a year ago and the other one went into a deep depression until we brought another home. Do it today!

Yes.
Parakeets need a companion, if you are worried about breeding, don't be.
Parakeets will only mate if they have a nesting box in their cage. But keep in mind they may bond more with eachother than you.
