If it was a gift then he can't have it back. He gave it to you so now it's yours. I would tell him where to go and that he's not getting it back. I left some things in my ex boyfriends car that he gave me and when we broke up he wouldn't give them back to me. I was furious at the bastard.

A gift is yours to keep.
Now if the gift was something big & expensive & it was given to you just before you broke up & it was you that broke off the relationship, I'd be inclined to say offer it back as a sign of good will. But that is entirely up to you.

If it were a gift with "no strings attached" then you don't have to give it back. If it were an engagement ring in anticipation of marriage then it would depend upon who broke off the engagement. If HE did then you get to keep the ring, if YOU did then you have to give it back or he can take you to court for the cost of the ring.

Hopefully you bought all of his underwear so ask for it back too. Guys buy women jewelry and always want it back so they can give it to the next girl.
Don't sleep around. Don't accept gifts. Don't have sex until you marry, then you can keep the gifts.

It depends. If you want the person completely out of your life and want no remembrances of them, and giving the gift back would accomplish this, give it back.
If it's something you want to keep, keep it. That's why it's called a "gift" and not a "loan."

It was a gift, no matter what the circumstances are now.
Just tell him/her that they gave it to you cause it was something they wanted you to have, just cause you arent together anymore doesnt mean that you should have to give it back, that just silly that they would even ask for it back.

Um no. I could understand if you were like hey can i have this , ya know, and then him asking for it back. but i dont think you should be giving anything that was a gift back. (maybe if it was a promise ring or an engagement ring) but other than that no. (i kept my promise ring. )

It's a gift. it's yours to keep...
Or you can go the return it with a twist route, After a break up up with a boyfriend he demanded I return a crystal unicorn statue he gave me... He called me repeatedly, sent e-mails, and asked me anytime he saw me... I finally embedded it in a polyurethane block and returned it... Let's see him retrieve it from the block without breaking it..
What would you do with a 12 inch X 12 inch block of polyurethane with an 8 inch statue of a unicorn in it?

if it's a dog, a car, keep it.. if it's something small, throw it back at him.. it depends on how much the gift actually means to you.. if you don't really care for it, give it back to him.. why give him the satisfaction of seeing you hang on to his gift?

Give it back and you don't have to deal with the person any more. Nothing they gave you can be worth the aggrevation.
