Even in their own homes? Shouldn't we leave the parents to decide what their own children should be taught inside their own homes even if we don't agree with it?

of course parents should decide ... but the state wants to be sure their "little taxpayers" recieve the proper indoctrination ...

No, states should not run the schools. This only teaches children into socially-acceptable practices and the political doctrines of the day.

But, even if they had the time and the resources to have an adult stay home to teach the childrne, most parents wouldn't do any better. I mean, go ask some adults to define "trapezoid" or "rhombus," and then ask a 6th grader. See who has the correct answer.

I would definite support a privatized educational system that offered a wide variety of programs to support different educational philosophies of parents. But, with the crowding out caused by state-funded education, only those with the financial means can actually afford that.

Seems like state decision are the best being students today are so talented and great scholars of our day. Teaching our kids what we want to know only will not give the overall fulfillment needed for these days and time. I want to see our children continue to get education in our school system.

There should simply be statewide exams that all must take to ensure satisfactory comptency but for the most part it should left to the family.

"How would you feel if a group of 15 fully armed police officers walked into your home, grabbed your 15-year-old daughter, and left without telling you where they were taking her? Not only that, but you soon found out that your daughter was being arrested because she was being home schooled, and she would not be allowed to come home until she was placed in a public school!

This is already a reality for some families —not in America— but in Germany. Melissa Busekros of Erlangen, Bavaria, was taken from her parents, Hubert and Gudrun Busekros. Why worry about this if it isn't in America? Because America is becoming like Europe more and more. Not only that, but here are two families who have nearly no hope that the government will listen to them. I don't like saying this because it seems so extreme, but if we continue on the way we are going this will be happening in America, unless we work to stop it now.

Using the same law, police recently took five "well-educated" children from their parents for the same reason. Police took into legal custody Rosine, Jotham, Kurt-Simon, Lovis and Ernst Brause, the children of Bert and Kathrin Brause. The state will not allow Bert and Kathrin to regain custody of their children unless they agree to place them in a public school.

The judge concluded that the children were well-educated but accused the parents of failing to provide their children with an education in a public school. The judge noted that one of the daughters expressed the same opinions as her father, stating that they have not had the chance to develop "independent personalities!"

Please take the following quote in context. I'm not trying to be an extremist, but a realist. One of the first acts by Adolf Hitler when he gained power in Germany was to create the governmental Ministry of Education and give it control of all schools and school-related issues. In 1937, Hitler said: "This Reich stands, and it is building itself up for the future, upon its youth. And this Reich will give its youth to no one, but will itself take youth and give to youth its (the state's) own education and its own upbringing."

The state? What are their perogatives to give contractors the red light for building 'charter' schools and publishing their own un-approved school texts. This will be a BIG step toward loss of rights/freedoms and is totally big business/NWO stuff.

Children have proven to be better educated when home-schooled; this isn't what our government wants. (the little people - the taxpayers - you see -we need to be properly put and left in our place) that's why public school systems and average test scores are down.

No way. Some family's are religious nuts and if they teach their children to be religious nuts, the next thing you know is we got thousands of religious nuts running around the country, running for government offices, trying to get schools to teach creatism and...........wait , that's already happening, aaaaaaagggggg.

people whose kids go to public school have no right to complain about what their kids are taught, unless it's somehow unconstitutional. and as far as the actual teaching isn't illegal, the parents can each their what they want to.
