My grandmother has an upset stomach and diarreah, for over a week now, and she's sick of eating soup! Any other ideas on what she can have. She has been to the doctor, they have run tests, bloodwork, catscan, and they have found nothing! I'm not sure what else to do. She is on a prescription diarreah pill and she can't have any antacids due to the antibiotic she takes. HELP!!! I feel so bad for her. She refuses to go the the hospital.

a diet we use in the hospital for people with diarrhea is called the BRAT diet. It consists of Bananas, Rice, Applesauce and Toast. I wish you the best of luck. Also the antibiotic may be perpetuating the diarrhea. Yogurt would help in that case to put back some of the normal flora into the bowel.

If the prescription diarreah pill isn't working, she can add an over the counter drug called "Immodium Ad" Actually this is better than most prescription anti-diarreah drugs. So please have her try it. Two doses should do the trick. In the mean time she should eat a gentle diet, very bland such as: dry toast, jello, clear broth, saltine crackers, eggs. After a few days on the immodium it should clear up and she can start eating a more normal diet. If she has any nausea too, please get her an over the counter anti-nausea syrup called "Emetrol." It's a combination of some natural sugars, she can take it if she's not a diabetic. It can't be diluted so no water or other liquids 15 minutes before or after a dose. This works so well usually only two doses are needed to clear up any nausea. Also, since they ran tests and found nothing, she could have some bacteria responsible for this or could be something she ate. You may want to go to a Wholefoods or Sun Harvest market where they sell natural remedies and also get her a probiotic. These are natural healthy bacteria that gets rid of any pesty bacteria responsible for digestive upsets. It's safe and effective. This will not only help clear up the problem if due to bacteria but will prevent future stomach problems due to this. She can also add some activia yogurt, which is supposed to regulate the digestive system over a few months time. Hope this helps, good luck to her!

There might be an intestianl virus in her digestive tract. other than that take her to do more tests. or she might just be gettin old. Chips can settle an upset stomach. Seriously try it.
