Get Vinger and a sparay bottle, fill the spray bottle with two capfuls of vinger and then half way full with water, shake well, and then spray on carpet, rub and it will come out, keep doing it until your can see it anymore if its real bad try applying the vinger directly little at a time, on to the spot, have a glass of water near by to apply to spounge or washcloth but I like the spray bottle better because you can dampin the spot as you want and not ruin the carpet .. I have used this method several times and it works better with the spray bottle, as you can keep track better of the amount of vinger and water on your carpet... yes your house will smell like vinger for a bit but... the stain will be gone.

Try a little paint thinner first. Test it in a small area to make sure it won't bleach the carpet fibers. What's left can probably get cleaned out with something like Spot Shot or some other heavy duty carpet cleaner.

It depends on the type of paint used -- is it Oil based or Water based (Latex, Acrylic)? It also depends on the type of carpet. Are they natural fibers or synthetic, long or short...
Oil based paint needs a paint thinner, and many have an acetone base. Acetone will melt many synthetic fibers while only bleaching natural ones.
Water/Acrylic based paints can soften with hot water - so a steamer cleaner and a LOT of patience can loosen and remove paint on the carpet of both fibers.
Both will need to be carefully cleaned after treating the area. Beware of using heat around the paint thinners - because of fumes (and unlikely, but can happen... flammability.)
Thinners will discolor your carpet more often than not.
If the area is small, and you have spare samples of your carpet - you may need to get a carpet blade, cut out the affected area, cut a matching replacement piece, and install with carpet glue. ...But that's only as a last resort.
Good Luck Hon.
