Side-effects of ultrasounds are not proven.
I have worked with developmentally delayed and learning disabled children for many years, and I have heard all the theories about why there seem to be so many more kids with these conditions in recent years. But NONE have been proven.
I had my son in 1991, and only had one ultrasound at 12 weeks to determine his age because I was taking the pill when I got pregnant. I nursed him and fed him mostly organic and natural foods during infancy and toddlerhood; he now eats whatever he wants. He has had all the routine vaccinations, had tubes in his ears twice, and his tonsils and adenoids removed. He is in 10th grade and an Honor Roll student and varsity athlete. He sometimes has nasal allergies, but is otherwise very healthy.
I do feel that many people perform the procedures excessively and unnecessarily. A colleague is having twins after long fertility issues and she had a 3D U/S and It was really amazing to see the images, but the whole time I was wondering why she would do that since she has not been having any complications.
So I would perform the test only if there were a good reason to suspect a problem. But it IS a very valuable diagnostic tool! Based on U/S diagnoses, some conditions are now being surgically corrected in-utero -- it's incredible!

Ultresound is the safest mean in pregnancy and it does not effect baby no such side effects have been reported as yet..and it is advisible to get an early ultrasound done in first trimiester to know the exact age of the fetus which is more reliable as compared to late Ultrasounds........these are the best way to find out the position of baby in last trimiester and on the basis of good ultrasound the caesarean or normal delivery is decided ! So yes doctors do trust it for their babies as well !! there is not harm in it !

Ultrasound should be safe for your baby, but I always ask for any test why they're doing it and what it will change in medical care. If the test doesn't change the treatment being offered or what your doctors recommend, then why do it?

Maybe there are side-effects, maybe not, but the question is, what would you substitute? Ultrasound is certainly better than exposing the kid to ionizing radiation.
