It's not in the Bible, but according to Orthodox Tradition, Joseph was about 80 years old when Mary was betrothed to him. Mary was entrusted to the elder so that he might serve as guardian of her virginity, (which she had consecrated to God before they began to live together), and be a witness to the purity of her life. It was necessary that the couple be espoused, because God wished to conceal from the devil the mystery of the Incarnation. Deceived by the bonds of wedlock, the devil did not suspect that this was the Maiden of whom Isaiah prophesied.

There is no definitive answer to that question. There are two traditions, one that he was an older man, but also, and maybe a lesser tradition that he was a younger man.
An interesting thing about Joseph is that there is no mention of his death in the New Testament. Yet, he was clearly not in the picture during Jeus' passion. Apparently, such knowledge was not important for the message of salvation.
