An Appendix horse makes a great sport horse. You have the height of the TB and the brains of the QH. Both horses being the fastest in the world (in its own class), also adds a big plus to the sporting nature of this breed. What people don't realize is that a TB is very loving and really bonds with one owner, now mix that with some QH blood and you have the perfect breed. Also the most important thing to know is matching the Right QH with the right Tb. If you chose to breed for an Appendix, I most often prefer the Stud to be a TB and the Dam a QH. The reason for that is the TB Stallion seems to be the tallest and a great build, and passes that on to their foals. Where as a QH mare has a more beefy side to them and a barrel like affect in their movement. And tends to pass that on to their foals. I'm very picky at breeding time, as to what stud to breed to what mare, and this shows come foaling season. It's just like humans, we don't just go out to have babies with anybody, we take our time and find that perfect match to start life with. It's very much the same in the horse breeding world. Take your time find the right match and you will have some of the greatest horses on your farm. In short terms, Appendix horses are some of the greatest horses out there. Buy one and enjoy the ride. Good Luck !!

Any time you start crossing two breeds you can have good or bad results. I have owned Appx. QH's. Some are great and some are just the result of someone not knowing how to pick a mare and stallion to breed. Not all lines of QH's cross well with a TB and not all lines of TB's cross well with a QH. Breeding is an art really. You have know how to judge each horse, research the bloodlines and then pick a cross that will fit. You don't always get the perfect cross of a TB and QH.

I don't really think of an Appx QH as a breed. It isn't a breed just part of the AQHA. Personally and some won't like this I think that AQHA needs to close the books to TB's because far, far to many of the AQHA horses are high % TB and are basicly TB's by look, temperment, and style. I do prefer the older foundation bred QH's but I have no problem with the Appx QH's. I just lean towards the foundation lines. Right now the AQHA fad is more TB then QH. I hope it swings back to more all around stock bred QH's again. They are stylizing them far to much to the point that a Halter horse is only a halter horse and english is only english and cutting is only cutting, etc. The QH was started out as a bred that could halter, ride, work and race all in one horse.

It is a great mix.
I like them. For someone who does not want the fiery tempermant of a thoroughbred the QH clams them down some. They still have the stamina and seem to have more dirve and more go. The make a great all around sport horse.
