I think that it was good that you were honest with your girlfriend. When we are trying to get over someone, there is always a conflict- "Why should I not date just because I like someone else who I can't be with?" collides with "Is it really fair to someone else to date them when my heart is with another person?"
There are no real clear cut steps to getting over someone. I don't know if you have any history with this girl or anything- but I know that if you liked her before for a long time or if you dated her then it is especially hard. Getting over somebody can be quick if they do something that hurts you or disgusts you to the point where you can't even like them anymore, or it can be a kind of a long, drawn-out, painful healing process. Try to remind yourself of the reasons why you aren't together, or why is wouldn't work anyway, or why you broke up. This helps somewhat, but unfortunately, our hearts do not really listen to logic.
I've found that the only real way to get over someone is to truly fall for someone else. Then you only want to be with them and all your old feelings for other people kind of just go away. My guess is that you haven't really bonded that much witht he girl you are with right now, or you would not be thikning about this other girl. My advice to you is to keep looking, and good luck!

Same way a person gets over a drug addition, smoking, over eating . . . etc....You get over, or move past, a person by being aware of your own self, sorting your emotions, knowing what is right or not right for you and then simply holding fast and letting time ease the desire. While that time is passing keep to your own inner strength that you are doing this because you value yourself and are simply taking care of yourself to be in a place and in company of what feels right for you. Time...patience...strength...and more time.

from personal experience, the best way to get over a girl is eliminate everything in your daily surroundings that remind you of her. Focus on the girl that you have already. Don't let your eyes or feelings wander.

Being as you are not old enough to drink my first option is off the table. Hmmm, try another hot girl. That is really the quickest cure for an old flame.

Listen very carefully "50 ways to leave your lover" by Paul Simon. First you´ll find it somehow silly, but stick to the lyrics, I bet they will tell you the answer.

Move to another city. Change jobs, schools, diet. A major change that will affect your schedule will DEFINITLY get you over him. Take it from me.
