You hit the nail on the head. I worked every spring, summer and fall in the fields in Idaho as a youth; now the kids can't get any of these jobs even for a $1 an hour because the illegal supporting legislation won't let them work until they are 18 on a farm.
I keep asking the question; who did this work before the illegals showed up and no one answers me, they just call me a racist. I absolutely hate the illegals and their supporters. It has nothing at all to do with immigration, it has to do with an invasion by criminals. I with the legal Hispanics here would realize that. Most of the legal Mexicans that are here came here to get away from Mexico but yet they want to move Mexico here; can someone explain that!
IR has yet again changed not only where she grew up, her experiences and her race but now is an economic expert. Wow, all this and she spends here time on YA. Must be nice. Whites cannot get jobs were their are illegals working. Most companies in the farm and construction business that hire illegals are Mexican owned; subsidized by the stupid AA laws and minority owed businesses. And oh, by the way, 72% of White kids can't afford to go to college; now you making that remark is racist!
Is anyone else having difficulting rating an answer. If I rate an answer bad because it is in favor of illegal criminals it won't take?

I lived in my younger days in an area that had alot of onion pickers. Lived in Florida at the area where there are the ferneries, strawberries, oranges etc.. Lived in Nebraska where they have harvest issues and such. The problem I saw wasn't the pay. They usually paid well. The problem was that it was TEMPORARY. You can't live for a year on 3 mos. of work and you can't 3 mos. off of work from another job to do this for for 3 mos.
Unless an area accomodates for these changes....I don't know what to say. That's why I feel it was ignored for so many years. They came...did the work...AND LEFT. They made their money and could probably live in Mexico for a year on 3 mos. of work. Problem was when they didn't leave and then started bringing huge extended families with them.
We had, when I was growing up, alot of legal temporary worker visas right on to citizenship. My dad worked with these men and had nothing but the highest regard for them. I went to school and were friends with their kids. I was just stunned when I first heard the "race" card being pulled now. It was never an issue when I grew up. That is where the "good hard working people with strong family values" started. IT IS NOT what is here NOW. I don't know where this new group comes from!!! I have met the nicest people of Mexican decent and they are NOTHING like this new wave. I mean I find it hard to beleive they came from the same place.
They crossed a line and I do beleive it is recent generations. I personally knew a number of people who were really nice people and settled here and made a good life. They have extended their support to younger generations and other relatives and they are ashamed to call these people family.
But, just like my family....warts and all....family is family. I don't abide by that same belief. (And I have some pretty crappy relatives.) I've had family do worse than an enemy could do.....
They have studied us. They know our weak points and they are riding them to the fullest.
I worked as a maid, waitress, sprout farmer, chicken house, factory work.....there is NOTHING they do that Americans won't do and haven't worked side by side with them ,doing the same.
It's a myth and a lie. And RACE has nothing to do with it. They created a race issue where there was none before. Now there is. They aren't just picking fruit either......they are in the very jobs that were a step up for any generation wanting a better life. But just like some of our young. They don't want to work up the scale....they want it all and don't want to have to do anything to deserve it besides "default".....as if they personally deserve FULL payment for something in the past they have no part of. WHEN IS THE DEBT PAID? I'm German.....how many generations have to pass before we let go of thinking every German is a member of the KKK? I'm Irish also....I know my ancestors suffered and should have deserved something. Also French and English and Sioux Indian. How long can I collect? I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth. I got no free ride! It's a lie. Period.

I grew up with racism towards brown skin Mexicans in south Texas back in the 60s. Racism that still exists today. You may pick fruit white boy but the majority of the pickers have always been brown skin Mexicans or hispanics.

It is a fruit picking myth that only illegals will pick the fruit. The illegals will be the only ones who pick the fruit at THAT price. And no, it wouldn't make it that much more expensive to by fruits...look at Canada, fruit is the same price there as it is here, and CANADIANS are the ones who pick their own fruit.

I'm pro legalization and I don't think anti's are racist. I just think they are completely wrong and quite ignorant and misinformed.
Hera is completely dumb. There's a little thing know as climate that would not allow Canadians to grow certain types of fruits and theres also something called importing. You seriously need to read.

With 15 to 20 million illegals in our country and 41% on welfare, why are the fruit and veggie farmers complaining that they cant get migrate workers to do the work?
They need to either start picking or get out!

Thanks for the update I changed the figures to now reflect your picking pears.
It's now 10,000,000 to 1, in favor of illegals. But your gaining steam, get one more and you will be a juggernaut.

Fruit pickers come in all shapes, sizes, colors etc. There is more need for pickers than there are native born Americans to do the job.
