If i really like the girl, i love taking my first dates to the laker game. Its cool and fun and most likely they've never been. i am guessing you are going to get all these dumb answers like a coffeeshop or walk or movie or dinner. sure do that if you want to be boring and like every other schlub she's ever dated. be creative and you'll be rewarded with a cool and exciting date and hopefully a few more.

Pizza and a hockey game!! (thats my ideal first date anyways)
go for dinner and a movie, see the movie then go for dinner. That way you automatically have something to talk about afterwards

Either take her to a movie (ask her what films she likes) Ice Skating is also good as its a way of getting to know each other-you're in a potentially vulnerable situation and it makes it easier to relax. Plus, falling on your butt is a good way of breaking the initial atmosphere! Failing that, appeal to her competitive spirit if she has one and suggest go-karting. My boyfriend knew I'm REALLY competitive and took me Karting on our first date, 6 years later....!

first date? keep it small and take her out. get to know her--that should be your main goal.
dont interrogate, but try to keep the focus of the conversation on her. as you progress if she starts asking about you---you know you have her hooked.
