Well, I think its like our fridges. U see, in the wild, before they became living with people, dogs didn't have a sure meal, so they had to save some for later. Maybe your dog has that same thing on his mind. I dunno. U maybe try to give him food more often in the form of threats and rewords, that kinda stuff. Maybe, he'll get the feeling that there always will be enough food for him. Hope I helped... good luck

As for digging it is also a sign of boredom. Try giving your dog an exact ok place it can dig to keep your dogs interest put treats or toy inside and digging somewhere else will fade pick a digging area where there is shade because some dogs dig for a loft. If your dog returns put a fence to stop it and it will think the hole is ruined. Another reason is that so dogs can here rodents underground to stop this problem hire an exterminator to get rid of the rodents and critters some might be poison.

Make your dog a sandpit, he's bored. When he looks like he's going to dig, redirect him to the sandpit. Rake it when he's done so he can start fresh again next time. He might need you to exercise him more, you know your dog has enough exercise when you come back and he lays down.
