They need to be removed. It's not very expensive...my vet charges $6 a claw. It's just a simple snip and cauterize procedure and you can bring him home immediately after. Depending on his age, he may need a few stitches, but it's simple and necessary!

In some dog breeds the dew claw is nothing more than flesh and nail. That is to say there is no bone. It is like getting A flesh wound it will heal but you will knead to keep it clean. I would take the dog to the vet just to be on the safe side! If you can afford to have the other or others removed I would have it done so that it dos not happen again and they have no use for thee dew claws most vets recommend that they be removed when you have you dog spayed. Or at 6 months in other words. Good luck with you dog!

A vet will have to remove the dew claws. Call around for estimates.

You will need to take him to the vet and have it done, i'm sorry I can't tell you how much it costs, have you tried trimming it back?
If you're wary of cutting it, take him to a groomer and get them to do it for you, watch them so you know what to do next time! Cheaper and less painful than surgery. If it has to be removed, then it does, but a groomer will know. They can at least trim it to give the dog a little relief for now until you can get the surgery.

Take him to the vet to have him removed, they serve no purpose and leaving them on you run the risk of the dog getting them caught on something and ripping them off. On purebred dogs they are a flaw only two breeds of dogs recognized by the AKC are allowed to have them one is the St. Bernard the other I can't remember right now. If it is irritating the dog have them removed.

first off i work at an animal hospital so i hope my experience helps...if your dogs declaws r touching the pad u prob can take him to a groomer or most vets like mine will cut them if u are afraid of cutting the quick plus when u r there u can ask them and im sure they will show you about how far to cut them. all you really need are pet nail trimmers and u can get them at dollar general its not that expensive or hard to come by...if you do decide to declaw them you can have it done at your local vet the price range is 6 to 10 dollars not including and additional things you need to buy. it also depends on the age on wether or not he needs stiches if you have any other questions just let me know.

Don't mutilate your dog. Part of pet ownership is to take the responsibility to trim their nails every month. Learn to take care of your pets. They are not just things to modify everytime you feel unconvinced by having to take care of them.
