It's too early of a Saturday morning here to launch into that particular argument. Let's leave it at:
C) both and/or none of the above
And I love you like a brother, too -- you're funny and a good person to have around the forum. We may be on opposite sides of the faith issue, but I consider you to be a friend.
If you lived next door, you and your family would be welcome at my place any time.

I would say that atheism is based upon lack of evidence that god exists.
Don't worry about being friends with everyone, Sean. I wish there wasn't so much fighting in the world and even on this board, but it is what it is. People are passionate about what they believe, and some cannot see past the disagreement to the person behind it. *big hugs*

Actually Atheism is based on no evidence. The fact that there is not one shred of evidence to support the myth that God exists is the basis of Atheism.
So, I am guessing False, with the right to defend what I dont believe, unless you can prove me wrong. Which is very unlikely

False. Atheism is based on non-evidence. How can you say you love someone you don't know, unless it is Agape love, which is a general concern for humanity. Anyway, best wishes accepted and sent back. Peace.

Atheism is based on what can be seen. There is no evidence for or against God/god(s,esses).
What the 40 have clicked on I can't see, no link showing.
Love you too friend!

LOL!
Obviously, false! Just as there is no empirical evidence to prove that there IS a God, neither is there any to prove that there IS NOT a God. If there were, don't you suppose science would have found it by now??
I'm sure that, if there were true evidence, the atheists on THIS board would certainly know about it!!
ROFLMCLBO!! (this is a "trick question" isn't it?)

Obviously not. There is no such thing as evidence of non-existence, for the obvious reason the something non-existent cannot leave evidence. Likewise there is no such thing as logical realization of non-existence, since logic is necessarily based upon evidence. Non-existence - of anything, not just God - is always an unfounded, unsupported assumption, resulting in ignorance by choice. Sad.

abscence of evidence is NOT evidence of abscence. Atheism is based on a lack of faith. Some people will never understand true faith and it's useless to try to explain it in words. It's the same as REAL love, either you know it or you don't.

Based on statistics:
If our existence is improbable so much so that a supreme being had to create us, then the creation of a supreme being is that much more improbable.
If we are so complicated that a God had to create us, then isn't the creation of a god that much more complicated? This is basic logic.
Based on history:
“Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear”
- Thomas Jefferson
Or how about based on behavioral science:
People often use the term "Almighty" when describing God. The term almighty means "having unlimited power", yet this “almighty” needs our prayer? That is a gross contradiction. A God that kills first born children may be almighty, but it shows a serious emotional problem if he needs our justification. Something that is not a good description of a god.

it is an argument of semantics, but I would say that atheism is based on a LACK of evidence. Believers believe blindly. Atheists do not follow a certain belief system blindly, we simply look at the case for God. Since there is no evidence, we do not believe. We do not do it out of choice or faith, we do it out of necessity and logic.
