At most places, the minimum, no matter if you just get a dot the size of a pen tip, is going to be around $50-60. Depending on how big you want it, I would imagine your son's name would be a little but more than that.

It really depends on the studio. Some charge per letter. Some charge based on the full size of the tattoo. Shop around for the best artists with the most reasonable price.

Most artists charge around $100/hr with a shop minimum of about $50. It depends on how big you want the lettering and how detailed the lettering is.

While I think it is sweet that you want to wear his name forever, I think it is really tacky. If you have to do it, I suggest that you get a really small one somewhere that most people won't see it. I know I would hesitate to hire anyone that had visible tattoos to interact with customers. Think about how you want to be perceived for the rest of your life. Think about how that will affect your ability to care for that son you love so much. Maybe it shows your love more NOT to get a tattoo.
