The 'bt' at the end of the name probably stands for Baronet, a holder of a hereditary title awarded by the British Crown known as a baronetcy. This could be one reason why there is a 'sir' at the beginning of the name.
I've searched the current and past holders of Baronet titles but have come up with nothing even similar to Patrick M Salt. Are you sure you have the correct name and spelling?

Have looked in who's who, and nobody of that name comes up, so i can only assume they did not exist, as every sir, dame, or anyone of that ilk is in.
