Do you think it was started by the U.S.'s imperialistic ways that caused inflation in the home countries of those now "illegals"? I strongly believe it was.

If you are talking about the invasion of Mexican illegal into the US then I would have to say you are partially correct. Why is it that somebody can work in a field, factory or on a roof in Southern Texas but cannot do the same work not 1 mile south in Mexico? The Mexican government is crooked, treats the common person like dirt and denies them any freedoms. They come to the US because greedy Mexican farmers, contractors and business owners exploit them in order to make even larger profits than their US government subsidized business would normally. I wish the average legal Mexican here would realize that it is their own people that are creating the problem. Its not the White, Black, Red or Yellow person who is just trying make ends meet legally. Mexico is full of very evil people and many of them have found a way to come to the US, take advantage of the minority business laws and exploit their own folks. These businesses will not hire anybody but illegals, their own people, that they can exploit freely. The average law abiding Mexican here in the US should applaud the efforts of the US citizen to try and clean this mess up instead of calling us names and threatening us with violence.

I'm not sure what you mean but I do beleive it has made some serious problems with the NAFTA etc. Kind of like Wal-Mart comming into a small town. The small business owners can't compete. This "globalization" has hurt a great number of people. It's helped a few, but big business seems to be the major winner.

i think it was started by the regulations put in place to restrict people's freedom of movement. so if 'imperialistic ways' covers racism and xenophobia, i guess that's a yes. not sure about inflation as such, but if a financially strong country refuses to trade fairly with the countries around it, i guess it would cause problems in those countries and the strong country would be seen as greener pastures.

in my country (south africa) we get a lot of illegal immigrants from the rest of africa. there are a lot of problems with this, and i don't mean taking jobs from honest south africans:
* the fact that these people are barred from coming here in the first place - they're human beings with dignity. plus, their countries welcomed political exiles from south africa during the struggle for democracy.
* many of them are skilled, but because they aren't granted work permits they aren't allowed to use those skills (despite our skills shortage when our own educated people move to the greener pastures of europe and australia). i met a qualified engineer from congo today. he was selling earrings on the side of the road.
* because they're illegal, they're not protected by the law. their employers pay them sub-minimum, give them horrible working conditions and if they complain they can threaten to have them deported.
