I think intolerant religious people are a dying breed - much like we saw the bigot start to die out in the 60s and 70s. At least that is my experience. I remember being small (maybe 5) and seeing the change in people. My natural father and few like him still used racial slurs ALL the time, but you could see the rest of the people being uncomfortable with this language and there was always someone near by telling me how wrong that was. As time went on, you stopped hearing those words on the street - people only used them in private and even then got grief for them very often.

That is not to say they don't exist any more - but their numbers are dwindling, and seem much smaller in some areas because it is an unpopular sentiment that needs to be hidden for social acceptance. I know this may not be the case in every part of the world, but I see it everywhere I go, and I have lived in 4 different states in America.

Now we see the religiously intolerant being ignored and condemned by the rest of the folks. Slowly but surely the tide turns and those who have that "my way or the highway" mentality will get less vocal and die off, until people wouldn't dream of offending in public.

The important thing is for ALL of us to live and let live. We all need to realize that we are all just the same. We simply want to live our lives, raise and provide for our families and have as many opportunities to do interesting things as we can. Period. Our interpretation of the Unknowable is just not something that needs to be shared, judged or pursuaded.

Peace!

PS - I don't think the world needs to be religion free, but it would be nice if our culture was, you know? Religion belongs in the homes, hearts and temples - not in the streets, schools, government or media in my opinion. Why can't we develop a strong custom of Privacy that helps keep our private lives private. Then people can worship or whatever they want in private homes and churches and no one else needs to be involved.

It will never die... Faith was once reguarded as fact at one time, then scientists started chipping away at faith. Science has disproven some of faith's notions: the sun does not revolve around the earth (the Earth revolves around the sun), humans do not have an indestructible bone (makes the Resurrection of Jesus impossible), inoculations are not blasphemy, sin does not cause disease (but to be fair, St. Augustine argued against that one) etc., yet faith has not died. Instead, faith has itself adapted by going with beliefs based on transcendence rather than evidence. Transcendence is an idea that something is beyond space and time, beyond the 5 senses. Therefore, faith cannot always be understood since, by definition, one could not begin to understand transcendence. It is a ******** response by the religious, but what do you expect from something not based on empiricism?

There are more and more people with a moral and spiritual ignorance.

Not just religion, but philosophy and self awareness have been neglected. It is not as important which belief system you believe as it is to have a belief system and stick with it.

Science is nice, but unless you are autistic it does not meet your spiritual needs. Many great scientists, also, had a religion. Even the few that tried to make science into a religion of sorts had a commitment to belief.

I predict a huge wave of revivalism. I have no idea what this new testament will be however.

If you mean in this present world, no, religious people will always be here (Hare Krishna, Divine Light Mission, Unity, Buddhists, Yin/Yang, Spiritualists, Scientology, Hinduism, TM, Children of God etc).

But True believers in Christ Jesus have more than religion, we have the Way, the Truth and the Light!

You can have it too if you want it.

I wish - and we all wish (even those who don't realize what a religion-free world would be like). However, we have very specific programming which makes us WANT to be a part of a religion - it goes back to our pack mentality and our dominant and submissive programs. Therefore - as long as religion is professing to be the "strongest" way to live forever, people will NATURALLY join. Therefore, I'm afraid we're stuck with it.

Christianity is growing by leaps and bounds. With the ever-more terrible things going on in the world people are turning to God for answers and hope.

I would rather think of it as there are more educated people supplanting those that believe a deity would ever have the need to kill.

Yes, they are. Religious education mostly did it for me.
