In the UK, you may be able to get a Sure Start Maternity Grant. This is a one-off payment to help with the cost of having a new baby. The current rate is £500.
You can get a Sure Start Maternity Grant if you or your partner or civil partner receive any of the following:
~Income Support
~income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
~Pension Credit
~Child Tax Credit at a rate higher than the family element
~Working Tax Credit where a disability or severe disability element is included in the award
The links below provide detailed information about who can claim and how. The grant can, in some circumstances, be given if you adopt or if your child under 20 has a baby.

if you live in australia you get 4100 four thousand one hundred, go john howard!, 4100 per child, so twins 8200! cool ah, come to austrailia! 500 dollars if stuff all in USA, 300 in UK that sucks big time. amazing how we live in western counties, but uk & usa does stuff all for its people, i believe whats good for one country should be same world wide, poverty is sickening when its from a western country, but i cry for the babies & mothers who have nothing in 3rd world contries, every country needs a john howard. yes i give to the poor. our grant is for all woman who have babies, working or on welfare, it don't matter. you don't pay it back. & by the year 2008 it goes up to 5000 if not more.
