I read a book in which the main character was told that mankind is sick. Wars, hate, meanness, discontent. All part of the sickness. And the cure was 'Ultimate Truth'. At the end of the book he found his 'UT' and was 'cured'.

But the thing about his Truth is that it didn't require him to learn a new language, go anywhere special or adopt any particular 'beliefs'.

I agree with this and wonder what everyone else thinks.

I think that if there is an 'Ultimate Truth' it has to be available to everyone, wherever and whoever they are. It has to be simple. Something that can be found anywhere.

But I also believe that it isn't something that you can 'teach' someone. Nor 'give' to them. Everyone has to find it for themselves.

Does this strike a chord with anyone? Does anyone else think this way? Tell me what you think please. Thanks.

"Ultimate Truth" is an oxymoron.

Truth (capital "T") simply IS and can't be graded.

As a species, the best that people can do is improve their PERCEPTION of Truth.

This is fairly "old hat" stuff as far as Eastern Philosophy is concerned. There are several different terms for it:

Enlightenment
Yoga (capital "Y")
Unity
Tao
Non-Dualism
The Void
etc.

Whatever you call it, it is the same objective.

The thing to remember is that EACH OF US IS UNIQUE and the path that I must take to reach this final objective will therefore be different than the path that YOU must take.

"The Truth" isn't "out there somewhere"...
it is WITHIN YOURSELF!

Ultimate truth is more likely to be absolute than it is relative. It is only the liberation of human thought post-reformation that allows for relativism, principally as a tool for preventing people from killing each other over ownership of 'the' truth.

I would agree that truth is available universally and is essentially within an individuals ability to find peace with their own existence and to live that example with others. There may be only one ultimate truth but it is very likely to be of infinite shades and definitions. Hypernonymous rather than monononymous.

All of the major religions express this in their golden rule.

There is no ultimate Truth. The Truth simply IS. All that is good in life boils down to 2 things Love and Truth and they are not mutually exclusive.

Love yourself.
Love your fellow travellers.
Be true to yourself.
Be true to others.

Thats it.

Thinking and believing are mental exercises that lead to confusion, which clouds you from it.

The Truth is not something that you have to find, as it is not lost. It is manifested in every single moment of your life.

Bring your mind to the point of a still pond, and the truth will reflect back to you in perfect clarity.

Sounds like Buddhism! Pilate said 'what is truth'. Jesus said 'I am the way, the truth, and the life'. That's how I have found' Ultimate Truth'

I like this question; I don't know what excarlt you mean but I think it means is going bck to basics. where before there was all this bad stuff people were doing (straying from God) & thus God didn't leave us & sent us His messengers with owrds of Truth (religion) which again we ignored & even took the words of God & used them to be bad.
I think the ultimate truth is LOVE
