I recently got a standard poodles who will not stop shedding. They are suppose to be known for lack of shedding but not this one!! Anyone have any ideas on how to make him stop?

There is no way to actually make a dog “stop” shedding (just like there is no way to keep your own from hair falling out once in a while). All you can do is minimize the problem. Either brush him daily to remove loose hair before it fall out on its own, or have his coat clipped short to make the shedding easier to deal with.

Also, most dogs will shed more at certain times of the year, so it may just be especially bad right now.

Since poodles are supposed to be non-shedding, I wonder if your dog has a medical condition. I would check in with your vet about your dog's hair loss. If that doesn't turn up anything, consult with a groomer about the best way to deal with your standard poodle's non-standard shedding problem.

You silly person. Poodles dont shed!!
Take your baby to the vet and see if there is a medical reason your dog is defying nature :)

As most everyone else has already replied...Poodles aren't supposed to shed so there may be an underlying medical issue with your dog. Make an appt. w/your vet.

Brush your dog everyday. I have a Miniature Poodle, and if you don't keep up with it the dead hair will fall out or mat, and trust me matting is worse than shedding!

If you have a poodle that is shedding then you have something else in that dog lol I think I would be rechecking your dog.

are you sure it is a standard poodle? did you get it from a puppy mill? daily grooming is a necessity of poodles - bring it to the groomer for a retriever clip
