If you're referring to Jesus, He is depicted with a beard because most men of the culture and time He lived on earth in wore beards. If you mean God the father, all I can say is, you've gotten a much better look at Him than I have if you saw a beard.

We do not know if God has a beard. It is assumed that he has and this idea has stuck over time.
Man had to invent an image of God in order to try and understand what he is like, and of course we think of him as an old grey haired man.
