It is perfectly OK to cry when a beloved pet dies.
I am almost 52 years old, and a master of eight different asian disciplines.
I cried when "Pretty Boy" died when I was 15, I cried when "Scampy" my Cockatiel died, I cried when "Buddy" my lovebird died. I cried when I had to sell "Sunny" my sun conure because the apartment I was moving to would not accept ANY pets, and I will probably cry when my parakeet "Charlie" and Canary "Kahiku" dies.
Is is perfectly natural to express grief for the loss of a beloved companion.

I would think you were strange if you DIDN'T cry. I was devistated at the loss of my budgies. I'm still not "over it" and probably never will be. The people who might think you were strange for crying are the people who don't understand the love and joy a little bird can bring.
If he's getting old and showing signs of his age, just give him more and more love until the day comes. This will help you to deal in the long run and you'll know that you've given your little bird all the love you could give...until his last day.

It's perfectly normal to cry if any pet dies. They're part of the family and it's perfectly acceptable to cry over the death of a pet as it is to cry over the loss of a mother or grandparent. I hate it when people tell me 'it's just a bird' or, in the case of my rats - 'it's just a disgusting rodent.' . I tell them that their grandmothers are just smelly old farts and why do they waste their time on something that just gets sick all the time and will die in a few years? Why waste their time on an old fart when there's some starving kid in India who deserves the attention more? I don't mean it of course, but it makes some of them think. I've had over 60 rats in my lifetime. I've held some of my guys as they've died and it hurts every time. I hate it, but I'd never go without pets again. They're just too cool.
Some humane societies have Pet loss groups that you can go to when the time comes. There you'll meet lots of people who feel the same way you do and no one laughs. You can find a lot of groups similar to those over the internet, too. I'll list some places I've found that may help you remember the good times ^.^

Of course it is normal. Your budgie is like your best friend because you love him a lot and you're probably going to cry if your best friend dies or gone forever, so it is normal.

doesn't matter what kind of pet it is, if your attached to it you'll cry. my little brother's kindergarden class had a goldfish and at the end of the school year he got to keep it, that thing got to like 4 inches long and lived for 5 years and when it died he cried. just don't think about your bird dying because he's still alive!

I've cried enough times over various chickens dying. Just point out to those idiots that it is no different from a dog or cat dying, you are just as emotionally attached to your budgie as you would be your cat or dog.

Why would any one make fun of your feelings for a beloved animal? If they do they obviously aren't mature, because anyone with common sense knows that the death of a loved one, whether it be an animal, or person is devestating.

My female Cockatiel is the most loving pet i have ever had. I stop breathing when I sleep she gets upset and my wife wakes me. She kisses me in the morning. gets uptight when i leave the room. Dont worry about your friends birds are living loving creatures and God made them..For us.

I think it's fine to be attached to a pet no matter what the species. Why would we have them if there wasn't some sort of emotional attachment? They certainly don't make us any money! If people make fun of you just ignore them. Some people are morons.

ITS VERY NORMAL TO CRY OVER THE LOSS OF ANYTHING IN THIS WORLD NO MATTER HOW BIG OR SMALL. THIS SHOWS WHAT A DESCENT, CARING, LOVING PERSON YOU ARE TO OTHERS. IF OTHERS CANT SEE THAT, YOU DONT NEED THAT KIND OF RELATIONSHIP WITH THAT PERSON AND FOCUS ON MORE HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS WITH PEOPLE LIKE YOU THAT ARE MORE UNDERSTANDING OF YOUR FEELINGS. HOPE ALL GOES AS WELL AS CAN FOR YOU. ILL BE THINKING OF YOU AND PRAYING YOU.
