My 12 year old cousin just made cookies by herself for the first time. She told me that they are good but there is something strange about them. She mentioned that she put the cinnamon in with the sugar and the butter and usually when I make cookies I add the cinnamon in with the flour. Do you think it matters which order?

You always put your dry ingriendents in together I.E. Flour Baking Powder Baking Soda Salt Cinnamon Because you must sift or mix them all at the same time

Putting Cinnamon In your Wet Ingridents I.E. Sugar Butter Vanilla Eggs May Cause the Cinnamon to Clump up and for cinnamon balls in your recipe and not have the cinnamon taste through what you are baking.
Putting the Cinnamon in the Dry Ingridents allows for it to be distruibited through out the cookies and the cookies will taste better and it should be in that order

Usually when baking, it's best to follow the steps of the recipe because the order in which things are mixed is important.

However, in a cookie that contains cinnamon as a flavoring, it's highly unlikely that mixing the cinnamon with the butter and sugar is going to taste much different, if different at all, than blending it first with the dry ingredients...which is probably what the recipe said to do.

If they taste funny or off it's probably because she screwed up w/baking powder, too much flour, over stirring (which makes the cookies tough and hard).

I don't think they taste different because of when she added the cinnamon. Not in this case. It's something else.

Baker for 25+ years.

Yea It would matter, if you want good Cinnamon cookies or whatever you would want to put the Cinnamon in with the dry ingression's and then add the dry to the wet.

if they taste funny its likely because your baking powder and baking soda was not mixed up well enough....but you should always mix the wet ingredients then the dry ones before combining them...to avoid the baking soda and powder tatse because not mixed enough, get yourself self rising flour and then you can omit baking powder/ soda and salt from the recipe because the self rising flour has it premixed in...Rosie
