1. Place eggs in a saucepan with enough COLD tap water to cover completely by 1 inch. Bring to a ROLLING boil over HIGH heat. Once the water is brought to a rolling boil, PROMPTLY reduce heat to a lower medium boil and cook an additional 10 minutes for a “hard boiled” egg. For a “soft boiled” egg reduce the time by a few minutes.

2. Remove from heat and IMMEDIATELY place eggs under ice cold water or in a bowl of ICED water to chill promptly to help yolks stay bright yellow. Chill for a few minutes in the cold water until the egg is completely cooled. This is an extremely important step which prevents the greenish “ring” from forming on the surface of the yolk over time. If the egg is not chilled immediately after cooking an unsightly dark greenish ring will eventually appear on the outside of the yolk.

3. To peel...crack on all sides, roll egg between hands to loosen shell, and remove shell. Enjoy, with a light sprinkling of salt if desired.

To serve in egg cup, place egg in cup small end down, slice off large end of egg with knife or egg scissors and eat from shell with spoon.

Refrigeration is necessary for hard boiled eggs if they eggs are not to be consumed within a few hours.

Refrigerated boiled eggs, kept in the shell, can be kept for up to 1 week.

I gave a thumbs up to TOMato because that is exactly how I do hard-boiled eggs. I like this method, because when I used to boil them for a specific amount of time, I would invariably not hear the timer go off and boil the darn things dry. If they sit in the hot water a bit longer, it doesn't hurt them (or the pan) as much. For ease in shelling, the one key element seems to be to really chill the eggs as soon as they are done cooking. I hope your son enjoys his egg! How about a poached egg on toast?

Place the eggs in a sauce pan large enough for all of the eggs to sit on the bottom. Cover the eggs with fresh cold water. Put a lid on the pan and set over high heat. When the water begins to boil and steam starts to escape from the pan, remove the pan from the heat and let it sit, covered, for 14 minutes.

Drain the eggs and then plunge them into a large bowl of ice water. Refrigerate for 1 hour.

Crack and carefully peel the eggs and pat dry

Put eggs in a pan of water. Bring water to boil and let cook for about 12 minutes. Run pan under cold water for about 5 minutes when cooked to rapidly cool the eggs.

Place eggs in pan of cold water to cover.
Put on stove and boil 3mins.
Remove from heat and let sit in water for 5 mins.
Run under cold water till cool to the touch.
Peel

Started with cold water eggs will not get that green tinge around the yolk.

Easy take a pan of cold water put in about 2tbsp vinegar (helps prevent shells from cracking) bring to a boil.
Boil for about 3-4 Minn turn off heat let cool. If you want to cool faster put pan under cold running water till eggs cool to the touch..

to hard boil and egg all you have to do is put an egg in a pot of water and bring it to a boil leave the egg in there until it floats then it is done. if you put the egg in after the water has started bioling the shell will crack.

Put the eggs in the water while the water is still cold. Then turn the heat on. Otherwise, the eggs will crack.
